Week 5 - Player of the week

Ben launched 2 dingers in our 2 games and had the most RBIs on the night. Tuesday was easily the stiffest wind I've ever played softball in. If there ever was a night to hit HRs it was that night. We split the night with a win and a loss again.

Week 3 - Player of the week

Game one this week was a good battle that came down to the last out. We held a narrow lead through most of the game. In the last inning the opposing team was up to bat with the tying run on second and a power hitter at the plate. Sure enough the batter got ahold of all of it and the ball looked like it was on it's way out of the park for a bad guy win. Abe, on a dead run was able to snag the well hit ball over his shoulder right at the fence for the last out. The kind of hero play that will get you beat up with congratulatory smacks on the back from your teammates. Thanks for saving that one Abe!

Week 2 - Player of the week

On Thursday night, with the help of great defensive play, Pat pitched a shut-out game. A shut out in softball is the equivalent of a no hitter in baseball as far as I'm concerned. That was pretty cool.

Brad made some amazing defensive plays at 2nd along with a solid night from Dan at short and plenty of outs from our outfielders. There were 2 innings when the other team had the bases loaded with 2 outs. Amazing to go a complete softball game and keep your opponents from scoring.

Jon finished the game with an inside the park home run to end the game in the 6th with the 10 run rule.

Pat also made a pro slide into home plate on Tuesday night. Nice hustle old timer, good week Pat.

Tuesday night brought another win and another loss. Was a humid night for it. We lost our entire fan base during the first game due to the downpour of rain around the 4th or 5th inning. Player wives and kids can be such fair weather fans! It got muddy.

Highlight of the night was Pat's sliding close play at home plate. Not sure how old grandpa Pat is, but he plays like he is younger than all of us. Way to earn a run Pat.

There were a handful of players that could have been voted for player of the week, Ben for his bomb, Mitch for his inside the park home run to lead off our season, Dave's new found gold glove, Or the way Keith has tomahawked his way to such a high batting average.

But I can't find my way around Chris Pence and his 12 for 16 hits on the week. That's a .750 batting average. Thanks for the production Chris!

Priced out bats at several stores. (Thanks for doing the research Mitch) Ended up finding a Miken Velocit-E on ebay for around $35 less than retail. (The bat is still new in packaging.) So we got a $217 bat for $180. We had $170 pooled in cash, so we still need $10 collectively from anyone who has not yet pitched in.

I'm hoping the bat will arrive in time for our Thursday game.

Well, we split our first night in half with a loss and then a win. I'm happy with our night on the whole since we came back in our first game to make it a close one. We had men on base (In scoring position) and needed 2 more runs. We just ran out of outs.

The highlight of the first game was Mitch leading off the season with an inside the park home run!

Our second game was a long battle, but we came out on top. Game started shortly after 8:00 and lasted until 9:40! That's a long softball game. These games are only supposed to last one hour. I remember standing in the outfield and looking over at the scoreboard at one point thinking we must be running out of innings, only to see we were still in the 4th.

Lot's of runs, I think we ended up winning 23 to 20.

Ben got his first home run out of the way, and Keith went 4 for 5 at the plate in the second game and 7 for 9 on the night! But Chris Pence (Pictured above) is leading the team so far going 8 for 9 on the night! Holy Cow! (Making a bid for player of the week.)

A few rules to be aware of as the year starts. Had the managers meeting at Parks & Rec tonight.

#1 - The pitch height has been opened back up to 12' tall again. Last year it was narrowed to between 6' and 10'.

#2 - Only 3.2 beer is allowed in the parks

#3 - Only the team manager is allowed to argue with the umps. Strikes and balls are not an arguable call.

Hey guys,

My boss has a photographer lined up to do a photo-shoot for a client. We are going to squeeze in a team photo within the time we have the photographer reserved. We are scheduled to shoot before our game this coming Tuesday around 5:30.

Please make arrangements to be on hand for the photo which will be at the Lunkers field next to field #3. We will need to be shooting at 5:30 or 5:45 in order to make it across the parking lot to catch our first game on field #1. I would plan to asseemble at the Lunkers field at 5:15 or 5:30 at the latest.

Please make an effort to be there. I would hate to have a poor showing for the photo when we have had all of our expenses paid for by our sponsor.

Also, let's finalize the collection for the bat fund this week. Our sponsor is willing to match whatever we raise for the new bat.

The team is planning on pooling some money to get a decent bat that will make us all super stars. If you can, please bring some cash to contribute to the cause. We don't have any other costs as players this year so this should be a good time to invest in a good bat. If we can all add from $10 to $20 bucks per player that would be swell.

Ben, I need to give you the restricted bat list before you select a bat.

Next weeks scrimmage is going to be on Thursday after all. Plan on 6:00. Check back for field location.

Welcome to Red House Reds softball

During the off-season a deal was worked out to switch our old Wildcat team under new ownership. The Wildcats are now the Red House Reds. Aaron Hautala owner of RedHouseMedia, (Dain's boss) offered to underwrite the team. Our partner sponsors are Pro-Print and The Garage Promotional Group.

This is good news for players as there will be no team or league fees to pay this year. I would expect better play out of the guys this year now that there are no contract issues to get distracted with. Thank you sponsors.

Our jerseys, hats and pants have been ordered and will arrive in a few weeks.
